WHY TO HIRE A DESIGNER FOR YOUR KITCHEN REMODEL

A remodeled kitchen increases satisfaction in your home, not just for aesthetic reasons, but because it anchors your whole house and is an extension of your living space. The kitchen is no longer a stand alone room and needs to be redesigned with the entirety of your home in mind.

Hiring an interior designer should be the first step in your kitchen remodel to ensure that the kitchen not only functions to fit your lifestyle, but flows into your whole home. A great interior designer understands how to integrate systems in place and how to work with specialists like plumbers and electricians. They have a good knowledge of structural components and can analyze costs vs benefits when it comes to things like replacing or repainting cabinets or removing walls for an open floor plan.

Why to hire a designer for your kitchen remodel – Blog by Wiles Design Group

When we approach a kitchen remodel, we first want to assess the current space and then understand what the client needs to fit both their lifestyle and design style. For this modern Iowa City home, the clients wanted dynamic design and saturated colors, so these blue cabinets spoke to them. We went with a functional, yet industrial accent to be kid-friendly and still chic.

We also wanted to honor their love for huge gatherings, so the kitchen was intentionally designed to open into the other rooms where kids might be playing and we created a casual dining experience that could accommodate large numbers of people.

Another client came to us with a very cramped 1970s kitchen. They also wanted a modern kitchen, but with a softer and more organic feel. The couple wanted to be able to stay in their home long-term, so we incorporated aging in place concepts for better accessibility and convenience: wider doorways, seating in the kitchen area, and current appliances. Because they love to cook together, we increased the counter space by 30% and opening the kitchen allowed for them to cook side by side more comfortably and entertain guests as well.
